Innovation Ecosystem
Greater Manchester’s innovation ecosystem is a network that comprises businesses of all sizes, universities, local and national governments, funding providers and investors, and entrepreneurs.
Innovation Greater Manchester seeks to strengthen and broaden this ecosystem. In doing so, it will create a skills and talent pipeline, expand access to finance, and develop deeper business networks that fuel enterprise and entrepreneurship.
The ecosystem will be enhanced by the growth, formation and scaling up of start-ups, existing clusters of innovative SMEs, and inward investment by major global businesses. Our target is to increase business R&D investment in the city-region by £500 million per year.
Greater Manchester’s excellent scientific capabilities will be further strengthened and integrated into an ecosystem that will deliver inclusive growth. Our target is to increase public R&D investment in the city-region by £250 million per year.
