Greater Manchester has the largest concentration of biomedical health research in the UK outside the southeast of England. The city-region currently sits at the centre of the North West’s dynamic life sciences cluster.  

Cluster strengths include genomics, biomarkers and diagnostics, precision medicine, digital health and advanced therapies. With over 300 life and digital science businesses in Manchester Science Park and City Labs alone, as well as over 2,000 life science innovators at Alderley Park, Greater Manchester’s health innovation sector is booming.  

Greater Manchester’s health R&D assets are integrated with its £6bn per annum devolved Health and Social Care system to accelerate research into practice. Innovation GM will prioritise industry collaboration in areas where we have distinctive assets to drive new industry clusters across the city-region.

The city-region’s health, care and civic leaders formed Health Innovation Manchester (HInM) in 2017 as a vehicle for accelerating research and innovation by harnessing the transformative power of health and care, industry and academia to improve health outcomes, tackle inequalities and contribute to economic growth.

Innovation GM hopes to maximise the synergies between improving the health outcomes of our population and closing health inequalities, and developing a high-productivity life sciences industry, including by attracting major global life science R&D and manufacturing companies.
